ORIGINAL ART WORK

Yute and Tocuyo’s Imachinarium

The Retro Flying Carrier Ship Dieselpunk Mech Sculpture

Mixed media sculpture, metal, leather, 3D printing and resin. 50cmsx50cmsx35cms

This is a junk carrier, inspired in typical vehicles from our Peruvian urban landscape, half a basket case and half a motorcycle. They are typically used to carry al sorts of junk around the city, and in Yute and Tocuyo’s Dieselpunk Imachinarium, that’s exactly what they do. You see, the idea behind these characters is to propose a reinvention of my world and my environment, to answer the question, how would the world would be if an atomic bomb exploded in one of Peruvian main traffic streets, and a new world emerged from that rests of the previous one.  Yute and Tocuyo fly around in this vehicle recollecting the metallic trash they are going to use to build they’re machines. They are hoarders of the useless, to rebuild it into something new, functional and powerful. In a way, thats also whats behind the proposal of a dieselpunk mech aesthetic. Find more about this in these previous article.

The Retro “Moto Taxi” Mechamorph Dieselpunk Mech Sculpture

Mixed media sculpture, metal, leather, 3D printing and resin. 80cmsx50cmsx35cms

I love this monster. It is the first “mechamorph” or real dieselpunk mech sculpture i have built in this series of diesel punk mechs I want to work on. You can check out the concepts I want to build in this post just focused on 2D Art. This one in particular is the Retro Moto Taxi. My question is, what would if all the vehicles of our public transportation system, chaotic and colorful and become into amazing “Transformers” such as the slick and trendy vehicles of the Hollywood franchise? Could this be our own proposal of technology and innovation, with an emerging country touch? Could this be an original solution to our own personal and social chaos? This sculpture, this mechamorph, has an heroic stand, it reflects the search of a new identity in a world that values technology and pop culture.

Yute Dieselpunk Mech Robot in his Flying Exo-suit

Mixed media sculpture, metal, leather, and resin. 60cmx40cmsx25cms

The dieselpunk flying exo-suit is a classical mech in Yute and Tocuyo’s Imachinarium as it is present in the beginning of the story and in the end of it. Its tightly related to Yute’s character arch in which he has to find the courage to make a crucial jump. Will he do it? The sculpture shows a defiant character who is willing to take a step, but who hasn’t still done it.

The Dieselpunk Retro Mech Doc Mecha Suit

Mixed media sculpture, metal, leather, and resin. 80cmx40cmsx25cms

The “Retrodoc” character, is a dieselpunk mech disguise used by Yute and Tocuyo to go undercover into the Retro-Bureaucrat’s office and ask for the form BOZ-746. This form is indispensable to make the proper query to the Automaton, the most ancient being in the Imachinarium who might have the answer to the most important question: Who am I? What am I here for? Who was my creator?

“The Dieselpunk Retro Mecha Doc Mecha Suit”

Mixed media sculpture, metal, leather, and resin. 80cmx40cmsx25cms

This is a complete body view of the Retrodoc Dieselpunk Mech suit character, from legs to head. You can notice that Tocuyo is hidden from the waist down and handles the movement of the legs, while Yute is evidently acting as the head and moves the arms. This character is essential to the general plot of their story, because it serves as medium for Yute to start to realize that he too has the power to execute instinctively and not only plan rationally.

Tocuyo Dieselpunk Mech Robot in his Jumping Suit

Mixed media sculpture, metal, leather, and resin. 60cmx40cmsx25cms

As opposed to Yute in his flying exo-suit, Tocuyo has jumping exo-suit which he uses to travel long distance among the highest junk mountains in the Imachinarium.

The Dieselpunk Mecha Tocuyo on Flying Emojibomb

Mixed media sculpture, metal, leather, and resin. 60cmx40cmsx40cms

Tocuyo here is standing on a powerful atomic bomb, which has been transformed into an “emojibomb”. An emojibomb is essential a nuke which has been adapted by Yute and Tocuyo’s  masterful engineering to turn it into a limitless source of energy for all its dieselpunk mech vehicles.

The Dieselpunk Mech Retro Panda Sculpture

Mixed media, metal, leather and plastic, 36cmsx28x20

The Atomic Panda is a character who has had it with the Imachinarium and wants to find a way to go away and leave it for good. He was close friend with another mischievous, chaotic and key character in Yute and Tocuyo’s odyssey, the Atomic Rabbit. Their relationship was complicated and in a quarrel the Atomic Rabbit cut the Panda’s mechanic leg and left him for good all alone in one of the Imachinarium’s trash deserts. There he was found by Yute and Tocuyo who built him a new leg. This particular art toy with created by intervening a vinyl art toy called Monsky.

The Retro Fish Mechamorph Dieselpunk Mech Sculpture

Mixed media sculpture, metal, leather, resin and acrylic painting, 40cmsx50cmsx30cms

A popular vehicle, it was invented by Yute and Tocuyo to move around short distances inside the Imachinarium. The retro fish does not have any particular kind of fish as reference, just a generic archetypal shape of a chubby fish, but I did add a kind of fishing rod on its front which Yute uses to give direction to the machine, and which reminds me of the weird angler fish that lives in the deep ocean. The rod provides direction and light, which is metaphorically speaking, what Yute and Tocuyo are looking for in their quest for answers.

Yute Dieselpunk Mech Robot in his Flying Exo-suit II

Mixed media sculpture, metal, leather, and resin. 60cmx40cmsx25cms

The dieselpunk flying exo-suit is a classical mech in Yute and Tocuyo’s Imachinarium as it is present in the beginning of the story and in the end of it. Its tightly related to Yute’s character arch in which he has to find the courage to make a crucial jump. Will he do it? The sculpture shows a defiant character who is willing to take a step, but who hasn’t still done it. This is a second design with rectangular wings held by Yutes hand.  In this particular case, the wings were hand sewed to the metal to enhance the realism of the piece.

The Retro Bull Mechamorph Dieselpunk Mech Sculpture

Mixed media sculpture, metal, leather, and resin. 60cmx40cmsx25cms

The bull is a powerful creature. It symbolizes strength, resistance, beauty and resilience. Its also a symbol of fertility and is deeply rooted in our psyche. That is why there is a natural sense of aw when we see a real life bull, being it in a rodeo or a farm. This sculpture is based on a previous artistic print that you can find in this previous post together with other robots. The idea is that Yute and Tocuyo build the Retro Dieselpunk Mech Bull to travel undercover through the valley of the mech bulls, some of them extremely territorial and dangerous.
